The painting depicts the underground root system of the bush yam plant found in Alhalkere country (Utopia). In the Bush Yam Dreaming, the aboriginal women perform ceremonies which include song and dance and pay homage to the spirit of the yam plant to ensure perpetual germination. The bush yam is an important food source for the aboriginal people living in regions of Central Australia.
