The painting depicts the underground root system of the Yam Plant, which is found in Alhalkere region of Utopia in Central Australia. The Aboriginal women often canvas large area to find the yam.

The women pay homage to spirit of the Bush yam in their awelye ceremonies to ensure its perpetual germination.
