The painting refers to Warlpiri Aboriginal women gathering bush tomato in Central Australia. The women gather the fruit, which grows generally next to creek beds. It has a pungent odour when the fruit is ripe.


This fruit has been an important food source (bush tucker) for Aboriginal people for many thousands of years. Bush Tomato is known to the Warlpiri people as Wanakiji.
