This artwork represents whirly winds, which occur quite frequently in the arid environment of central Australia. Whirly winds are a swirling gust of wind collecting leaves, sand and debris in its path, turning the sky red.
To certain Aboriginal people Whirly Winds represent spiritual ancestors travelling though the wind to the next world.
