The painting depicts the complex root system of the yam plant in the dry season. The yam is one of the most stable bush tucker gathered by the Aboriginal women in the Utopia region. In the yam dreaming the artist is paying homage to the spirit of the yam plant so that it keeps on regenerates year after year to feed the Aboriginal people.
