The painting depicts the seed (kane) of the pencil yam plant ,which is a staple food source gathered by the Aboriginal women from Alhalkere region of Utopia in Central Australia.

The women pay homage to the spirit of the Yam plant in their awelye ceremonies to ensure its perpetual germination. The Bush yam story is a significant Dreaming to the Kngwarreye clan.
