The painting depicts the Bush bananas and Wild figs. Eastern Arrernte Aboriginal people from central Australia refer to the bush banana in their language as Alangkwe
and wild figs Utyerrke
.
The Bush banana is an important plant for the Eastern Arrernte people and is a totem to certain people. The women gather the fruit promptly after rainfall, otherwise if left to long the fruit and flowers become too hot.The wild fig is associated with certain Women's Dreaming stories. The women gather the figs to be eaten or ground into a paste and left to dry.
