The MacDonnell Ranges, including James Ranges is of spiritual importance to the Arrente people of Central Australia. The Range is associated with the Caterpillar Dreaming. The ancestral caterpillars moved out from Emily Gap and formed the land by passing over the Range, creating the rivers, gorges and tracks.
