The painting depicts the MacDonnell Ranges from Hermannsburg towards Palm Valley, with the creek flowing into the Finke region.
To the Arrernte Aboriginal people the MacDonnell Ranges is the spiritual dreamtime birthplace of the ancestor caterpillar, as it formed the MacDonnell Ranges, creating river beds, gorges and tracks. It is also referred to as Albert Namatjira country.
