The prominent feature of this artwork is the magnificent MacDonnell Ranges. At the forefront is a Ghost Gum, a native tree found in central and northern areas of Australia. The Ghost Gum, (white) hence its given name by the local Aborigines and has significant 'Mythological" importance to the culture of the Aboriginal people.
To the Arrernte Aboriginal people the MacDonnell Ranges is the spiritual Dreamtime birthplace of the Caterpillar ancestor, as it formed the MacDonnell Ranges, creating rivers, gorges and tracks. The MacDonnell Ranges are significant to Aboriginal people, not only in its beauty, but is also a spiritual landmark to Aboriginal culture.
