The painting represents seasonal changes and the celebration of the Bush Yam plant. Through Awelye (womens ceremony) Aboriginal women pay homage to the yam spirit to ensure perpetual germination.

The Bush Yam is a principal Aboriginal food source (bush tucker) for Aboriginal people living in Central Australia.
