The painting depicts the flowers of the Yam plant. Bush yams are a predominant Aboriginal food source (bush tucker) gathered by the Aboriginal women from Utopia, Aboriginal Art Regions of Central Australia.
The yam plant has a unique complex root system that can spread up to twelve metres from its stalk and has bright green leaves with an abundance of flowers.

In this painting Rosemary Petyarre is paying homage to the spirit of the yam plant to ensure perpetual germination.
