The East MacDonnell Ranges are of cultural significance to the Eastern Arrernte Aboriginal people of Central Australia.

It is the Dreamtime birthplace of the caterpillar ancestors. It is believed as they moved they formed the MacDonnell Ranges.

This region is rich in flora, fauna and Aboriginal rock art.
