Christmas Sale 2009

Bush Yam Dreaming by Alan Pitjara

The linear pattern depicted in this painting conveys the root system of the yam plant. The circles represents the area to where the plant seeds germinate and when bearing a crop.

The colours indicate the different stages of ripening and seasons. The yam plant is a principal food source for Aboriginal people from Utopia in Central Australia and there are many Dreaming rituals attached to this significant plant.
