Women's Ceremony by Doreen Dickson Nakamarra

With the use of Aboriginal Symbols this artwork depicts Warlpiri women dancing
during Yawulyu aboriginal dictionary button.
Yawulyu also represents body paint, which the women will anoint their upper body with oil, before applying ochre to create significant body paint designs. Ceremonies include dance cycle and song lines.

  • Each concentric circle represents a ceremonial place
  • Each U shaped icon represents a woman
  • The lines represents the dancing tracks imprinted in the sand by the women
  • The layering of dots represents Warlpiri country in central Australia
