My Country by Kudditji Kngwarreye
Each patch of colour has a significant meaning of ancestor stories, songs, hunting, stories of travels and food and water of the Anmatyerre country across Utopia in central Australia. Kudditji Kngwarreye's works are very much part of his versions of cultural emu creationist stories. The histories of the Sandover and Bundy Rivers which cross Utopia Station also secretly inform these paintings.
Kudditji is a traditional custodian of this country and is the younger brother of the renowned artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye. As a custodian and respected Elder Kudditji held the responsibility to teach younger boys to hunt emu and to pass on the practical skills and knowledge of the ceremonial sites on Utopia Station.
