Gathering Bush Tucker by June Sultan Napanga

The painting depicts Aboriginal iconography referring to the implements Aboriginal people use, when hunting or gathering bush tucker.


Aboriginal symbols depicted in his painting are:-

  • The U shape (bottom left) represents a woman
  • The I shape represents a digging stick
  • The () shape represents a coolamon
  • The circles represent a nest
  • The U shape (top left) represents a man, with woomera, spear and boomerang


The snake and goanna are totemic spirits and are also a principal food source.
