An Australian Aboriginal artwork should always be issued with a Certificate of Provenance, also known as a Certificate of Authenticity. This document contains vital information on the artist, as well as details about the artwork itself. When selling on an artwork, please ensure that this document is passed on.
Authenticity of Provenance means that the origin or authorship of a work of art has been correctly identified.
Central Art follows a well defined provenance and authenticity process to ensure that we are an exemplar in our business practice . Careful and detailed documentation follows – each work is given a catalogue number, inscribed on the back of the artwork with the Central Art stamped logo, the artist's signature and the title of the work.

Our Certificate of Provenance contains the following information:
Printed on the Certificate of Provenance is a copyright acknowledgement that reads as follows:
This work is copyright. The copyright is owned by the Artist and his/her people. This painting may not be reproduced in part, in whole, or in any other form without the permission of the Artist or his/her inheritors clearly in writing, with all knowledge prior to final proof to the family concerned – then only when clearance has been approved.
Central Art encourages the Aboriginal artists we represent to sign their work. When a work is brought to us, we witness and photograph the signing event. This serves two purposes: it gives the artist a permanent record of ownership of their work and the physical photo empowers them within their community. The photo also gives the buyer a witnessed guarantee that the work is an original of the artist it purports to be. The buyer is then able to make a connection with the creator of the work.
Central Art is also an authorised and endorsed member of the Australian Indigenous Art Trade Association which aims to promote the ethical trade of Indigenous art. Our membership is a demonstration of hard work and support of Australian Indigenous Artists. Sabine Haider, director of Central Art, has been a board member since 2009, was elected Vice President in 2010, and re-elected as Vice President in 2011.

Central Art is an approved signatory of the Indigenous Art Code. The Indigenous Art Code aims to ensure fair trade for Indigenous artists. Central Art is committed to ensuring Aboriginal artists have control over the production and marketing of their work. While understanding and respecting the preference of many artists to work within the art centre environment, Central Art also appreciates the independence of those who choose to deal directly with private galleries. Central Art believes strongly in Indigenous artists being able to exercise that choice which can be an empowering experience for them.
Central Art realises that it's buyers are anxious for reassurance regarding the authenticity and commercial fairness of what is being offered for sale. Provisions, such the code’s artwork agreements and certificates for work purchased directly from artists, are seen as helpful tools in the development of an industry of high repute.
Sabine Haider spends a lot of time with the artists she works with, ensuring that they understand their artwork agreements. This is not just a matter of understanding the agreement’s terms. Sabine wants the artists to understand the kind of business decisions that influence the ultimate price of work Central Art may sell.
