Yumari Jukurrpa

Yumari Jukurrpa

The site of the Yumari Jukurrpa is at Yumari - a collection of rocks west of Kintore in the Gibson Desert. This is a Pintupi Dreaming which was passed down to a Pamela Napurrurla Walker (a Warlpiri artist). Yumari is a site of a forbidden love union between a Japaljarri man and a Nangala woman. In contemporary Warlpiri paintings traditional iconography is used to represent the Dreaming, associated sites and other elements. In the example of this Dreaming the concentric rectangles represent the Dreaming site of Yumari.
