BiographyI (Sabine Haider, Director Central Art) met Albert in 2008. He visited my gallery in Alice Springs and was such a charismatic and likable man. He was extremely keen to share with me his Dreaming stories, Tingari Cycle and Snake Dreaming, which he inherited from both of his parents. We were able to sit down and have a good yarn about art and the importance of country. Albert was born on the 1st of August 1963 and he spent his first few years living in the Kimberley Region with his family. In 1970, he was sent to school at Fitzroy Crossing in Western Australia. When I met Albert he was living in Utopia with his wife’s side of the family and he would visit Alice Springs regularly to spend time with his own family, he had not been back to his homeland for many years. Albert spoke of longing for his country and missing his family and land. He is able to connect to his homeland through painting his traditional Dreaming stories. Albert likes to spend his time doing the things he loves - painting, playing the guitar and singing. I caught up with Albert a few years later and he told me that his wife had passed on, which had been a very difficult time for him but he was still living in Utopia with that side of the family.
