Biography

Central Art has minimal biographical information on Janet Spencer Nungurrayi. Janet comes from Yuendumu Community approximately 3 hours from Alice Springs in Central Australia. Her Dreamings relate to the Goanna or Wardapi Jukurrpa.

Janet is married to Denis Nelson Jupurrula and together they have three children. Janet and Denis live between Alice Springs and Yuendumu Community. Janet paints as a cultural activity and hobby and Central Art has supported Janet by being one of the only Aboriginal Art Galleries to have acquired her artworks. “Yilkirdi”, one of Janet’s paintings depicts Aboriginal iconography which refers to Mount Singleton (Yilkirdi), near Yuendumu in Central Australia. This is Janet’s traditional homelands and she takes pride in her depicts of her sacred land.
