Atilaby Marcus Wheeler

In Marcus's own words the painting depicts Atila (Mt. Connor) "where Ernabella Road used to be, near Amata". It was completed in July 2016. Mt. Connor is an Australian mountain located in Central Australia and is situated in Pitjantjatjara country. It reaches to 859m above sea level and to 300m above ground level. Mt. Connor is a flat topped and horseshoe shaped mesa, part of the same vast rocky substrate thought to be beneath Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Mt. Connor is close to the site of Kungkarangkalpa (The Seven Sisters Dreaming).

Marcus Wheeler was born in 1947 and comes from Hermannsburg Community approximately 1 hour from Alice Springs in Central Australia. Marcus is married to Betty Wheeler, who is Albert Namatjira's granddaughter. Together they reside in Hermannsburg. Marcus is a watercolour artist like many who have carried on the tradition from Albert Namatjira. Marcus has participated in two exhibitions within Australia.
