Kangaroo Dreamingby Roseanne Morton PetyarreThis Aboriginal painting depicts a series of tracks of the Kangaroo ancestor stretching hundreds of kilometres, each track linking to a significant waterhole (middle). The painting can be viewed as a map of the journey of the Kangaroo Dreaming. The Kangaroo formed an important part of the traditional Aboriginal people as a bush food and is also to many Aboriginal people a totem. Often at ceremonies the men will re-enact the Kangaroo through dance. |
ArtistRoseanne Morton is the daughter of Gracie Morton Pwerle from Utopia in Central Australia. Roseanne is the new generation of artists from the Petyarre/Pwerle family to emerge from this region. |
