BiographySarah Napurrurla Leo was born in 1971 and comes from Napperby Station approximately 120km from Alice Springs in Central Australia. As a young child her family relocated to Laramba Community. Sarah grew up on the community and was emersed in traditional culture including regular bush trips learning about sacred and important places and the Dreamings that occur there. Once married, Sarah relocated with her husband to Yuendumu Community working with the elderly. She began painting in 2008 after the birth of her son. Sarah paints Dreamings passed down from her father's side of the family including Karnta Jukurrpa and stories which relate to her land, it's features including the plants and animals. She also paints her mother's Dreaming - Ngurlu Jukurrpa (Native Seed Dreaming). |
