BiographyKelly Dixon Nungurrayi was born on 5th February 1970 and is from Kiwirrkurra Community located in the Western Desert. Kelly is a Pintupi woman and paints as a hobby and cultural activity. The focus of Kelly’s paintings is on “Tali” or in the Pintupi language the sand hills which are found in her traditional country. The concentric circles in the centre of her paintings depict an important and sacred waterhole which is close to Kiwirrkurra in the Western Desert. This is a central feature of her paintings. The waterhole site is a culturally significant place for Kelly like many Pintupi women as this is a place where women’s ceremonies are performed. The painting that Central Art has available is a prime example of her artworks. Her paintings display the close association between painted images and the physical landscape. Kelly is a relatively new artist to Central Art and we are excited to work with her. |
